The Social Media Marketing Industry Reported, the following benefits for businesses who posted to social media on a regular basis:
91%+ of business spending 6 hours a week saw an increase to their businesses exposure. With one year of social media marketing, nearly all marketers report generating exposure for their business.
Building relationships that lead to sales can take time. More than 50% of the same group above had reported improved sales. Increasing time spent from 6 hours per week to 40 hours per week, we a much larger group (73%) reporting gains.
After 2 years in social media marketing, more than half of marketers selling to consumers reported a growth in their business partnerships and over 60% of those selling to other businesses. There is a direct relationship between the time invested and the reported gain from said time.
By social media marketing, 66% of marketers saw lead generation after spending as few as 6 hours per week.
Over 50% of businesses with an average of 10 employees saw a decrease in their overall marketing costs when spending an average of 6 hours per week on social media marketing. That number was slightly lower (41%) for businesses with over 1,000 employees.
With a year spent doing social media marketing, 54% reported improved search rankings. 61% of those were only spending 6 hours a week.
By spending as little as 6 hours a week, 81% of businesses saw an increase in traffic. Those numbers were substantially better for those who had done it for a year of more.
Of those spending 6 hours a week, 71% found social platforms provided marketplace insight.
Of those spending at least a year using social media, 64% were able to build a loyal fan base. Spending more time can make a huge impact on this. 72% of those spending 6+ hours a week saw a benefit, where only 57% of those spending 5 hours or less a week. These numbers were also higher for B2C (73%) than those marketing B2B (63%).

This means that you should be spending at least 6 hours a week on your social media marketing strategy (more is better!), but don’t expect life-changing results immediately. While you will see an impact, consistency in frequency over longer periods of time is where we start to see the largest gains, so give your marketing campaigns time to grow.
